Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

What is Functional Neurological Disorder?

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a condition where there is a problem with the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body sends/receives signals. Investigations such as MRI brain scans and EEG’s are usually normal in patients with FND, even though a patient may present with a wide range of neurological symptoms such as limb weakness and/or seizures.

  • Liaise and feedback with other professionals such as a consultant or psychiatrist that may be involved in your care
  • Provide specific physiotherapy intervention focussing on diverted attention techniques and automatic movements to help improve your mobility and function
  • Educate and involve family and carers within your treatment plan
  • Virtual reality based therapy which can be used for exercise, rehabilitation or relaxation
  • Aquatic therapy (Hydrotherapy)
